Unchain America, based in Longmeadow, helps dogs in desperate need of care.
They rehabilitate dogs who have been chained, caged, stray or surrendered and work to find them a loving home.
They also work to educate people across the nation that dogs should not be left outside for hours on end.
The founder of Unchain America told 22News one thing they try to teach people is that dogs are pack animals and family members and belong inside with their pack.
“There were two pointers in Chicopee that were in a pen their whole lives and we were able to remove from the pen and are living happily ever after in two separate homes that was a good story,” said Robin Budin.
Budin says not every story has a happy ending.
Some people refuse to surrender dogs they have living in poor conditions.
Last year Unchain America was able to save 150 dogs, about a quarter of those from western Massachusetts.
They are also continuing to fight for tougher chaining laws.
