Tuesday’s deadly car accident on Page Boulevard has drawn attention to the dangers of driving in that area.
After hearing about Tuesday’s deadly accident, local residents told 22News they weren’t surprised there was another crash on that road.
A Springfield woman was killed in the collision on Page Blvd Tuesday. She was a passenger in a car that collided with a tractor-trailer rig.
Two children were seriously injured in the accident.
Local residents and businesses in the area told 22News that the multiple lanes on the road and the road’s proximity to major highways are what leads to so many accidents in the area.
“It is a high traffic area since we have the mass pike and we have the highways over here,” said Erica Vasquez of Springfield. “People are always trying to weave in between and out of cars. When they do that they don’t realize how close they are to one another so then they get into an accident.”
22News spoke with Evan Nyman, the owner of Bentley’s Barbershop on the intersection of Berkshire Avenue and Page Blvd. He sent 22News video of the aftermath of an accident that happened in front of his business this past August.
“A lot of impatient people cut through my lot to beat the light and then almost get into an accident,” said Nyman. “There was also a recent accident here on the lot where a customers car got pushed in 10 feet, the car flipped over and one of my customers walking out almost lost their life.”
The Hampden District Attorney’s Office has not yet released the identity of the woman who died in the crash. The children are three and seven years old.
One of them was in critical condition when they were rushed to Baystate Medical Center.
