Western Massachusetts’ community colleges partnered in Springfield in support of women in the STEM fields Wednesday night.
The STEM Starter Academies at Holyoke, Springfield Technical, Berkshire and Greenfield community colleges sponsored a networking workshop Wednesday night at the UMass Center at Tower Square.
The #MyStemStory event was created in an effort to connect female community college students with professional women working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Alysha Putnam from the STEM Program at GCC told 22News, “We recognize that women need support and women in STEM in particular need support. Our jobs as educators, coordinators, we are here to support our students and there is power in numbers.”
The Baker-Polito Administration has declared this week Massachusetts STEM Week in an effort to boost student interest and raise awareness on STEM education.
