Longmeadow is one of eight communities, other than Springfield, that will be directly benefiting from the opening of MGM.
According to a host community agreement with the casino, Longmeadow will get annual payments of $275,000 with a 2.5 percent yearly increase, as well as an $850,000 upfront payment for traffic and road conditions.
People in town said traffic is already terrible, and they believe the casino opening will only make it worse.
“We don’t really have that many routes out of town that get onto 91, so everyone goes the same way,” said Longmeadow native Quinn Orcutt.
One man told 22News he travels to Holyoke on I-91 three times a week, but he plans on finding a new way to get there once MGM opens.
“Since I know the area, I’ll go through Route 5 if I have to, or do whatever is necessary,” said Jerry Gold of Enfield.
Holyoke, Chicopee, and Agawam are among some of the other communities receiving money from MGM.
