Longmeadow cheerleading team surprised with trip to Disney for national competition

Hampden County

The 14 members of the Longmeadow Knights cheerleading squad are going to a national competition at Disney World.

They just found out Monday night during practice. Their coaches surprised them, sitting them all down and handing out gift bags, and then had them all open them at the same time.

“They’ve been committed to this team. They show up at all the practices. They go to gymnastics once a week to work on their other skills, ” said coach Jackie Wright of her team. “They show up and they work together very well. They care about each other.”

Cheerleader Daryl Healey told 22News she was stunned by the news, “I was really excited. Because it’s a really big deal to make it to Disney.”

The national competition takes place at Disney in February. The girls will be doing a lot of fundraising between now and then to raise as much as $25,000 to pay for their travel and lodging.
