Longmeadow declared a ‘dementia-friendly’ town

Hampden County

Longmeadow has officially been declared a ‘dementia-friendly’ town.

The town was awarded the title by the Alzheimer’s Association Monday night at the high school.

The declaration comes after the town provided a year’s worth of programs and presentations about the disease. The initiative, “Dementia Friendly Longmeadow”, began alongside a national effort back in 2017.

Chairmen of the Longmeadow Selectboard, Mark Gold told 22News, “It represents the work that’s being done in conjunction with all these groups to help provide services to folks who have Dementia, or are in danger of having Dementia.”

As part of the initiative, support groups and informational sessions are held monthly.
