Longmeadow Police implement new life-saving feature for residents

Hampden County

The Longmeadow Police Department has  implemented a new life-saving feature for residents in an emergency situation.

Longmeadow Police posted to their facebook page Saturday night, announcing how you can now text 911 to reach their emergency operators. They said this feature can be crucial to those who are deaf or hard of hearing, or during emergency situations when making a voice call could be potentially dangerous.

The 9-1-1 text feature cannot receive photos, videos or emojis. Officers are warning that this texting feature should only be used in emergencies.

They are also urging that calling 9-1-1 is preferred, with the hashtag “call if you can, text if you can’t”.
