Longmeadow to hold special meeting on change to town charter

Hampden County

A special town meeting is being held in Longmeadow to determine whether to make a major change to the town’s charter. Residents will vote on a petition to allow the recall of elected leaders.

The signatures required from the public to hold Thursday’s meeting easily exceeded the minimum requirement.

Registered voters will gather at Longmeadow High School to vote on the recall of the town’s School Committee.

This effort comes months after the School Committee voted not to renew the contract of Superintendent Marty O’Shea.

That decision was turned down 4-3. O’Shea’s contract is set to expire on June 30 of next year.

Town Manager Stephen Crane told 22News he expects a big crowd at tonight’s meeting.

Because of the number of people expected, Crane said it will take a while for votes to be counted.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Longmeadow High School.
