Ludlow police officer struck by car while working overnight

LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – A Ludlow police sergeant is recovering after he was struck by a car early Friday morning.

Ludlow Police Sgt. Daniel Valadas told 22News the officer was on West Street directing traffic around a car accident when he was hit by a passing car at around 2:38 a.m.

Valadas said the police sergeant rolled up on the hood of the car and struck the windshield before hitting the pavement. He was taken to the hospital due to the significant, but non-life threatening injuries he received in the accident.

Valadas told 22News the sergeant has since been released from the hospital.

Police are still looking into the incident, but don’t believe it was intentional. Valadas said the driver of the car that hit the police sergeant is cooperating with the accident investigation.

Drivers ignoring the Move Over Law can have deadly consequences

The accident that the sergeant was directing traffic around involved a car that had hit a utility pole. West Street was down to one lane of traffic when the sergeant was hit due to that accident.
