Major renovations are underway at the Basketball of Fame. By the summer of 2020, the inside and outside of the Basketball Hall of Fame will look completely new.
Basketball Hall of Fame President John Doleva told 22News the $22 million renovation project includes improvements to both the interior and exterior of the building.
Eighteen million dollars is being spent on new galleries inside the Hall of Fame.
Work has already begun on the Hall of Fame’s future Honor Ring which will showcase all of the Hall of Famers with new LED TV screens.
Doleva said the entire renovation project is being funded through donations from the Basketball community around the world.
“No longer will you go through an honors ring and read two and a half pages of information and reading a plaque. Imagine seeing 40, 50-inch led screens telling a story of Hall of Fame history,” said John Doleva, president and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Doleva told 22News they also will be renovating the outside dome, replacing its roof, and installing new LED lights. He said many of the dome’s lights have aged and are burning out.
Doleva said work on the dome was supposed to begin Monday, but they had to delay it until next week, due to Sunday night’s snowstorm.
The renovations will not impact operating hours.
