Man died after medical crisis led to single-car crash in Chicopee

Hampden County

A man died in Chicopee Wednesday night following a single-car crash on Fuller Road.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News when officers got to the site of the crash at around 10:19 p.m., they found the 72-year-old man having a medical crisis.

Wilk said officers and medical personnel used CPR and an AED device on the man, but he did not survive.

The police department’s crash reconstruction team is still investigating the crash, but Wilk said it is believed the man died due to the medical incident, not from the crash.

He said the man’s wife was in the passenger’s seat and was able to grab the steering wheel to avoid a head-on collision on the road. The car ended up hitting a guardrail, but the wife was not injured.

Chicopee police offered condolences to the victim’s family.
