Manhole explosion left some Indian Orchard residents without power

Hampden County

A manhole explosion in Springfield’s Indian Orchard section left some residents without power Thursday night.

Springfield Fire Department Spokesman Dennis Leger described the incident as “an electrical explosion” in front of 1050 Berkshire Avenue around 7:45 p.m.

No one was hurt, Leger said.

The Eversource Outage Map showed a little more than 150 customers had lost power, but most of them have since been restored.

Traffic was reduced to one lane for awhile on the 1000 block of Berkshire Ave., but that’s back to normal.

Eversource has a crew on site, and Columbia Gas is on standby for support.
