MassDEP investigating dark liquid spill in CT River near Springfield

Hampden County

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – A photo sent to 22News by a viewer on Wednesday, shows a dark liquid in the Connecticut River.

MassDEP spokesperson Ed Coletta told 22News, a site visit was conducted Thursday and the liquid appears to have come out of the City of Springfield’s combined sewer outfalls.

Coletta said it does not appear to be oil and MassDEP is continuing to investigate what it is and the potential source.

The photos were taken in Springfield behind Hall of Fame Ave.
