MassDOT considering new exit on MassPike

Hampden County

The MassPike could soon be more accessible for some drivers

For those getting on the MassPike in Westfield and heading West, they won’t hit another exit for 30 miles at Lee.

For people who live in between the two exits, the addition of a new exit could significantly cut their commute times.

Some business managers told 22News they think it would bring more revenue to the small towns.

MassDOT is studying possible exit locations in Russell, Blandford, Otis, and Becket.

They’ll look a the economic and environmental impacts of each area before deciding what location to recommend.

Nothing is set in stone yet, and if plans are put in place for an added exit, it could be another eight to 10 years before people actually see it.

MassDOT will make a recommendation on where the exit should go by the end of the year.
