A group of young men with Autism helped proclaim National Autism Awareness Day in Springfield Tuesday.
The young men joined Mayor Domenic Sarno as he issued his proclamation designating April as National Autism Awareness month.
The group benefits from programs at Sunshine Village in Chicopee and several other neighboring communities. Mentors help these young men in their late teens and early 20’s become good neighbors, and to be seen as good neighbors.
“They’re the most meaningful members of our community,” Sunshine Village Progam Manager, Lisa Montero told 22News. “This is an opportunity for the community to see what wonderful opportunities our folks offer to their community.”
The Sunshine Village clients presented some hand-made artwork and jewelry to Mayor Sarno. In the days ahead they’ll be visiting Autism programs in several cities and towns, including the Holyoke Public School Autism Fair.
