Blue Cross Blue Shield has provided a three-year physical fitness grant to the Springfield YMCA.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno joined a group of older adults for a workout Monday morning.

According to a news release sent to 22News, Sarno joined the class as part of an open house event at the Springfield YMCA to celebrate the importance of healthy, active lifestyles.

“One of the reasons I’m taking this class, it gives me the opportunity to interact with other people and it just helps overall with my health,” said Doris Harris of Springfield.

“The more you exercise, the better it is for your whole body keep yourself moving as we age, it gets harder and harder trying to stay in shape,” Beth Young of Springfield told 22News.

The event highlighted the health benefits of mobility at any aged and celebrated a three-year grant for senior programming from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Sarno was joined by officials from the YMCA and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts who fund and support the Active Older Adults program for the next three years.
