A medical marijuana dispensary held its grand opening on Cottage Street Friday morning.
“INSA Springfield” is the first, and so far, only medical marijuana dispensary in Hampden County.
INSA cut the ribbon Friday morning for its grand opening at the dispensary’s new location at 506 Cottage Street in Springfield. The dispensary is now open to all “certified” Massachusetts medical marijuana patients.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno spoke at the event.
INSA currently employs nearly 70 people from all over western Massachusetts and more than two-thirds are Springfield residents.
CEO Mark Zatyrka told 22News, “The excitement is here, we have a brand new staff. Most of them are local to Springfield as well and it was a great turnout for the ribbon cutting and we’re just excited to get the doors open.”
The company specializes in creating, growing and dispensing medical marijuana and offers flower products, edibles vaporizer pens and cartridges.
INSA is headquartered in Easthampton. INSA, previously known as Hampden Care Facility, changed its name to reflect a merging of different cannabis strains.
The company told 22News in mid-January the previous name did not reflect the energy and passion of the organization.
