Hampden County

Melha Shriners in Springfield Friday raised the curtain on their annual “Fez”tival of Trees.

Visitors found much to admire among the dozens of decorated Christmas trees all lit up at the Melha Shrine Center on Longhill Street.

Friday marked the start of the 8th annual “Fez”tival.

“This is one of our major fundraisers of the year,” said Glenn Surprenant, Melha Shrine potentate. “This allows us to raise funds to support our Melha Shrine Center and it allows us what we do in the community to stay in Springfield and to support the hospital.”

According to Lisa Twarog Spokesperson for Melha Shriners, new this year is a breakfast with Santa.

The breakfast takes place on November 25 and December 2 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Reservations are required and it’s $5 per person but, children under the age of 3 are free.

The event runs from Friday until December 2 at Melha Shrine Center Butterfield Auditorium. On that day, the decorated trees will be raffled off to some lucky families.
