The city of Springfield Saturday celebrated the success of the Central High School football team.
MGM Springfield held their Central High Meet the Champs event on Armory Square Saturday afternoon. The team’s title-clinching game was displayed on an outdoor jumbo screen for dozens to watch.
The event also featured Golden Eagle football players who participated in a meet and greet with the community.
Trey Cavaan, a junior on the team, told 22News the team feels honored, “It feels great. It’s a community win. The whole western Mass. community has been with us. Everybody’s been supporting us. Family, friends, strangers. It’s been great.”
The Central High School Golden Eagles made history this month when they became the first western Massachusetts team to win the MIAA state title.
This week, three players signed letters of intent to play D1 football this fall at NCAA schools.
