It’s less than a month until the long-awaited opening of the MGM Springfield casino.
The final touches are being put on the billion dollar MGM casino in downtown Springfield.
The most recent phase of construction, which ends Tuesday, includes landscaping, street lining and adding the big MGM letters to the top of the parking garage.
“I think it looks beautiful,” said Hiramis Perez of Springfield. “It’s something great to look at as you’re coming down the highway and you see the big, beautiful MGM sign.”
Some people told 22News that are less excited about the casino’s opening, but instead more excited to see this construction equipment disappear from downtown.
“Because of all the construction, they have to find other routes to get to workplaces,” said Devin Lucino of Springfield.
This phase of construction forced parts of Main Street and state street to be shut down at times during the workweek. But both streets will be opening back up to traffic on Wednesday.
The casino’s grand opening will be on August 24.
