We are less than 4 months away from the grand opening of the MGM Springfield casino.
MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis told 22News that everything is on schedule for the casino to open its doors on August 24th.
“It’s going to be a busy day, it’s going to be the biggest party this part of the state has seen in a long time,” said Mathis.
After nearly three years of construction, MGM Springfield’s $960 million casino will open its doors late this summer.
22News asked MGM Springfield President Mike Mathis why the casino will be opening several weeks earlier than the original start date.
“Between the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and The Big E taking up the latter part of the month, if we could get a head of that for a couple weeks and launch our project and take advantage of all the people visiting in September then that would be the best of both worlds,” said Mathis.
MGM President Mike Mathis told 22News that all of the MGM construction will be completed before the grand opening on August 24th.
“We feel really good about a single phased opening and all the spaces being available on the 24th,” said Mathis.
“So on the 24th when people walk in, all the tables will be set up and everything will be ready to go?”
Mathis told 22News despite rumors, MGM is committed to maintaining ownership, and operating its casino in Springfield’s South End.
Mathis told 22News that MGM Springfield will be announcing the events that will take place on opening day within the next few weeks.
