A search and rescue operation for a missing man resumed in Brimfield Sunday morning.

Multiple agencies were called to the woods at Long Pond Saturday to look for a missing adult man who police say may have fallen through the ice.

According to Brimfield Police Chief Charles Kuss, the man has been identified as Eric Malerbi, a 54-year-old who was last seen at 309 Sturbridge Road in Brimfield. He was reported missing Friday evening.

The Brimfield Police Department are searching on both land and water. Crews suspended their search around 8 p.m. Saturday night because conditions were not safe to work in the dark.

The search continued Sunday morning with assistance from Massachusetts State Police and emergency crews from Oxford, Sturbridge, Warren, Monson, North Brookfield,  the Tolland County Dive Team in Connecticut and many others.

Chief Kuss told 22News the search is expected to continue Monday. He said this is not a crime-related situation.

“We don’t expect this to be result of any sort of crime or any of those circumstances,” Chief Kuss said. “If someone does bump into him or see him, he may not even know we’re searching for him. This is just a well being search right now.”

The Brimfield Police Department says there are no risks to the public and are asking people to avoid the area while they continue their search.

According to Brimfield Police, Malerbi was last seen wearing a dark fleece jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Brimfield Police Department at 413-245-7222.
