Missing swimmer recovered from Chicopee River identified

Authorities have identified the man who drowned after he went missing in the Indian Leap section of the Chicopee River Sunday.

According to Hampden County District Attorney Spokesperson James Leydon, the man was identified as 24-year-old Jaime Lopez of Springfield. 

Leydon said the SPringfield Police Department’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit with  the Springfield Fire, Ludlow Fire Department, and the Massachusetts state police searched for Lopez well past dark on Sunday after he was reported missing.

After resuming the search on Monday morning crews recovered Lopez’s body at approximately 11:40 a.m. from the river.
