The community of Monson came together Friday night to show love and support for their hometown heroes.
The town held its 4th annual military care package drive at the Monson Polish Club Friday night, putting together packages for more than 30 Monson natives currently serving overseas and out of state.
Dozens of people, including many military families, came out to help pack over 60 boxes filled with community donations and gift cards.
22News spoke with the founder of the drive who said the holidays can be an especially difficult time for military members and their families.
“They really appreciate it. When they come home sometimes they’ll stop by and say thank you,” Karen King said. “But I think really, especially who this has helped is the members. The family members knowing that they’re not alone and that we can provide support to them.”
The boxes will be sent to 32 military men and women from Monson who are currently serving across four countries and 11 states.
