A different kind of memorial service was held in Monson Sunday afternoon.
The 23rd Annual Monson Memorial Classic 5K was held Sunday in honor of two sisters who lost their battle to cancer over two decades ago.
Kelly Waldron and Kathy Waldron Perry died from different types of cancer just eight months apart. The road race was started in their honor in 1996 and has only grown more popular throughout the years.
“It’s a beautiful day. We had so many new runners this year that I’ve never even seen before. Our numbers are much higher than they were last year,” said Lee WIlliams.
The race started and finished at Monson Town Hall.
All proceeds will benefit Griffin’s Friends, a nonprofit organization that provides support to children, and families, affected by cancer.
