SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield firefighters put out a multiple garage fire on Corona street this afternoon.

Springfield Fire Commissioner Bernard J. Calvi says the garage fire started in one garage and moved to another. When the Springfield Fire Department arrived both garages were fully engulfed. According to the Springfield Fire Department, two garages were on fire and the Springfield Fire Department, AMR, and Springfield Police responded.

Multiple companies managed to put out the fire by the time the 22News team arrived at the site.

Fire Commissioner Calvi says there are things residents can do to prevent fires like this from happening, “Everybody just needs to be careful with your power equipment and putting your lawnmowers away. Keep dried-out leaves away from your garage, and be careful of smoky materials.”

One garage is heavily damaged and the other is not viable. Traffic to the area was blocked off and no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is still investigating the incident.
