Neighbors not happy with changes made at Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Neighbors are expressing frustration over changes to the entrance to the Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke.

Guardrails have been installed along Route 202, and concrete barriers block the entrance, keeping cars from accessing the reservoir or parking lot.

Neighbors say people already park on their street to walk to the reservoir, and they're worried it will get worse.

One resident said some people have been parking at the Elks Lodge near another entrance to the reservoir since the barriers were put up.

“Cause they have a lot of parking there, it is out of a lot of people's way, maybe an extra mile,” said Terry Allen of Holyoke. “But there is more parking. I don't know how many people are actually going to do that.”

22News was not able to find out if the Elks allow people to use their parking lot.

The Department of Water Works said the changes are an effort to protect pedestrians and the city's drinking water.
