Newest police dog of Hampden County Sheriff’s Department named by Westfield students

WESTFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – Students of St. Mary’s Parish School helped name the newest police dog officer, Pyro of Hampden County Sheriff’s Department.

The newest police dogs name was announced Tuesday morning on social media.

Almost 200 students from kindergarten through to eight grade agreed on the name for the new officer.

Pyro will soon enter training to be a patrol and drug-detecting dog for the department. She will be certified after eight months of training.

Her partner Corporal Patrick Kiendzior organized the contest.
