Mayor Domenic Sarno announced Springfield’s observance of National Adoption Month Thursday.
Representatives from the Massachusetts Adoption Resource exchange came to City Hall for the announcement.
They’ll be attending Sunday’s adoption party at the Westfield Boys and Girls Club.
The event is expected to bring together dozens of prospective adoptive parents with children hoping to be adopted.
“About 10 percent of our kids do grow out of foster care. Ninety percent find families,” Executive Director of Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange, Lisa Funaro told 22News. “We have to keep rooting that it’s 95, 96. We’re rooting for 100 percent of our kids.”
On National Adoption Day, November 16, dozens of western Massachusetts families will adopt a child during a ceremony at the Roderick L. Ireland courthouse in Springfield.
