LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – One person is dead after a multiple-vehicle crash on 1-91 North in Longmeadow.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, at 2:55 a.m., troopers were sent to I-91 North in Longmeadow, just inside of the Connecticut line for a multiple-vehicle crash. Three people have been injured, and one person has died from the accident.
Investigators say that a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit was northbound on I-91 when it hit the rear of a 2019 Dodge RAM pickup truck. The impact caused the Volkswagen to roll over and the female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The victim, who is believed to be a woman in her early 20s from Springfield, was struck by multiple vehicles that were traveling northbound on I-91 and died at the scene. Her name is not being released at this time.
Several other vehicles struck debris from the vehicles involved in the initial crash.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 29-year-old Springfield man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Baystate Medical Center by the Agawam Fire Department. The four people riding in the Dodge pickup were also taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
All three Northbound lanes were closed for several hours as the investigation of the crash continued. Traffic was diverted at Exit 49 in Enfield.
