One woman was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after she was seriously injured in an apartment fire.
According to Springfield Fire Spokesperson Dennis Leger, firefighters were called to 414 Chestnut Street Saturday morning to find an apartment fire on the sixth floor of a complex.
Leger said firefighters found a 71-year-old woman in apartment 612 with severe burns to her torso, face, and hands. The woman was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment.
Water damaged six floors of the building after the sprinkler system was activated on the sixth floor.
The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is looking into what led up to the fire.
