Over 100 men, women arrested for solicitation, prostitution in Springfield since 2017

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Six men were arrested during an anti-john prostitution sweep in Springfield over the past week.

Over the past 10 years, prostitution in Springfield has been on the decline.

Springfield Police Department spokesperson Ryan Walsh told 22News that there are only a few spots in Springfield that police focus on.

Over the past three years, Springfield Police have been focused on arresting the men or “Johns” involved. However, the Springfield Police Department offers resources for women involved with prostitution.

Walsh told 22News, “There are women that are working out there that work with our service providers to attempt and attempt and attempt again, for those who don’t want to get help the first time to connect them with the proper services to get them back on the right track or to get them clean from potential drugs they may be using.”

Walsh added that by focusing on arresting the men, it sends a message of intolerance which deters others from trying to solicit sex.

Since 2017, Springfield Police have arrested 84 men for solicitation and 24 women for prostitution.
