Palmer High School will be closed Monday and Tuesday after a small fire caused damage Saturday.

Superintendent Pat Gardner sent out an email, and posted to the school’s Facebook page Saturday, saying the school will be closed for two days to assess the damage.

Palmer Fire Deputy Chief William Bernat told 22News, firefighters were called to the school at 6:12 a.m. and found a small fire in the woodshop area on the first floor.

Bernat said that while the fire was put out quickly, a major issue that still remained was a large amount of smoke on the first and second floor of the building.

There was no one inside the school and the fire is not considered suspicious, but the Fire Marshall’s office was contacted.

No one was injured in the fire.

The Bondsville, Palmer, and Three Rivers fire departments all assisted in putting out the fire while the Monson fire department provided coverage at the Palmer fire station.
