Palmer pays tribute to wounded veterans with Purple Heart ceremony

Hampden County

The town of Palmer paid tribute to wounded veterans this evening.

A plaque was dedicated to Purple Heart recipients at Palmer Town Hall Monday night.

The plaque honors the service and sacrifice of military men and women who either lost their lives or were wounded defending our country and our freedoms.

One Purple Heart recipient told 22News how much this ceremony meant to him.

“I think of the guys that I lost, the honor is theirs – not only ours but theirs more so,” said recipient William Byrnes.

The Order of the Purple Heart is awarded to service members who are wounded or killed in combat.
