A trail of smoke followed a school bus in East Longmeadow on the way to an elementary school.
The Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative said they are aware of this smoke issue, but the bus is not malfunctioning.
A 22News viewer sent us this video of a school bus that was smoking on North Main Street in East Longmeadow Tuesday morning. The bus was bringing students to the Maple Shade Elementary School at the time.
East Longmeadow parents told us this bus has been releasing smoke since last winter.
“The kids come first, how do you not know your bus is smoking, it has to be some sort of maintenance issue. I wouldn’t put my kids on a bus like that,” a parent said.
East Longmeadow Public Schools use buses from the Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative.
LPVEC Executive Director Andy Churchill told 22News the smoke is the result of an “after treatment emission system” that is burning off diesel soot, which built up over the winter.
Churchill said they are in the process of getting several of their buses get up to highway speed to stop them from smoking.
