Police are trying to figure the facts of an accident that closed part of Route 5 in Holyoke Tuesday afternoon. The road has since reopened.

Holyoke Fire Department Spokesman Kevin Cavagnac told 22News Holyoke Police, Fire Department and Action Ambulance responded to a one-vehicle accident at the intersection of Lincoln and Northampton Streets around 3:30 p.m.

Cavagnac explained that a small vehicle had collided with a tree and that the two occupants of the vehicle had to be extricated by fire officials.

Hydraulic cutters, spreaders, and rams were used to remove the top and roll the front dash off the lap of the driver, Cavanac added.

Both individuals were taken to an area hospital after being freed from the vehicle with non-life threatening injuries.

Cavagnac said the cause of the accident is being looked into.
