Springfield Police investigating two separate shootings Monday night

Hampden County

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Police Department is investigating two separate shootings Monday night, one on Rutland Street and another on Mill Street.

The shootings happened just hours apart from each other and left at least one person with a gunshot wound.

According to the police department’s spokesman Ryan Walsh, a ShotSpotter activation led police to the area of 0-100 Mill Street just before 7 p.m.

When officers arrived in the area, they located a man who Walsh said had returned to his apartment after being shot. That man was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries but is expected to be okay.

A few hours later, around 8 p.m., police responded to another report of shots fired in the State Street area.

Police have not released information on this shooting, but when our 22News crew arrived, we saw a number of police cruisers blocking part of State Street near Rutland Street and police had taped off the area.

We’ve reached out to the Springfield Police Department for more details on the State Street shooting.

We’ll bring you any updates when we learn more.
