AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP ) – Agawam police are looking into rumors being spread about a threat at the high school.

According to Agawam police, there are officers at the school to “calm the fears” that have been generated by the rumors.

“These are just rumors and there has been no evidence to suggest anything about them is credible,” police wrote on Facebook.

22News received a call from a viewer earlier Thursday, claiming the school was in lockdown. Agawam Public Schools Superintendent Steve Lemanski told 22News, however, the school was never in lockdown.

“The day started at the high school with a fire alarm due to electrical workers triggering an alarm caused by dust. School started a few minutes late. We are in session and students are in class,” Lemanski said.

Agawam police are continuing to investigate the rumors, but said there is nothing at this point that suggests any credible threat.
