Portuguese culture is being celebrated in the western Massachusetts town known for it.

The 70th annual Our Lady of Fatima Festa kicked off in Ludlow Friday night. The four-day Portuguese festival marks the anniversary of the parish and is the church’s largest fundraiser.

Guests came out to enjoy bifanas and rock out to The Great Escape, a Journey tribute band. Many were excited for the fireworks display.

Jake Bickley of Wilbraham told 22News, “We don’t get a lot of opportunities to get out, so this is a great time to get some fire works in, maybe go on a carnival ride. Chances are we will ride the ferris wheel.”

Luis Rocha came from Long Island to enjoy the Portuguese festival here in western Massachusetts. He told 22News, “Pretty much the feast is just amazing and there’s a bunch of people, a bunch of fun stuff here. It’s just all crazy. There’s different singers.”

Festa continues through Monday September 3rd, with a fireworks display scheduled for Saturday night at 9:30.
