SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were isolated after being exposed to a powder found inside a suspicious envelope at the Springfield Social Security office.

Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News the powder has been identified as onion salt.

Leger said the suspicious envelope was discovered at the Bond Street office just before 10:30 a.m. When our 22News crew got there, we saw people outside the building standing out on the sidewalk.

The Regional hazmat was called in to investigate the substance.
