SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – More than 4,000 customers in Springfield were without power Wednesday night.
According to the Eversource Map, a power outage affected 4,208 customers around 8:40 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., the map showed fewer than two customers without power.
Eversource spokesman David Branda said an equipment malfunction caused the massive outage. Springfield Police announced shortly before 9 p.m. that a transformer had exploded on Dwight Road, affecting thousands of electrical customers in the city.
Power was restored for most customers within an hour of the outage and some customers had to wait a little longer for their power to return.
