Power restored after 1,000+ residents were left without power in West Springfield

Hampden County

Power was restored for over 1,100 customers after they were left without power in West Springfield Monday afternoon.

Eversource spokesman Frank Poirot told 22News crews worked to repair damaged underground cables that caused the widespread outage in West Springfield. Power was restored within an hour after the outage.

Poirot explained that crews re-routed electricity around a damaged underground cable that was affecting customers in the Main, Elm, and Park Streets area.

The Eversource Outage Map indicates that 1,119 customers were without power in West Springfield as of 3:30 p.m. Poirot said the cable damage was caused by Monday’s heavy rains.

According to Town of West Springfield, the outage caused the traffic lights on Park Street, Park Ave, and River Street to stop working.

There were also outages reported in the Berkshire County town of Tyringham, where 42 customers were without power.
