SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The promotions of several members of the Springfield Police Department were celebrated in a pinning ceremony Wednesday morning.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, the department’s newest captain and two lieutenants were pinned by a member of their family or law enforcement of their choice.

Walsh said the Capt. Larence Murphy, Lt. Ariel Toledo, and Lt. Joseph Dunn have nearly 60-years of combined service to the city and will officially begin their new assignments Sunday.

Capt. Murphy joined the Springfield police in 1997, Lt. Toledo became an officer in 1993, while Lt. Dunn was hired at the department in 2008.

“Our newly promoted Lieutenants will provide an incredible help to our Department with their knowledge and experience working with our young officers,” said Acting Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.
