Public pools giving local residents relief from extreme heat

Hampden County

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation operates the Mary Jane Sherman pool in Chicopee.

Families come from outside Chicopee to cool off there.

Mitra Class of Springfield told 22News the pool brought relief from Tuesday’s extreme heat.

“It’s probably 95 in the house, so, unless you have AC or a swimming pool, you’ll be sweating, your body well be sweaty…But being here? Being where swimming you’ll have fun you’ll enjoy yourself in the swimming pool,” Class said.

You can continue to cool off here into Tuesday evening.

Mary Jane Sherman and other state-operated pools will stay open until 7 p.m.
