Red Cross assisting at least 8 people after fire on Southampton Rd. in Westfield

At least nine people were forced out of their homes after a fire on Southampton Road in Westfield Tuesday afternoon. 

The city’s firefighters and police were called to the area of 810 Southampton Road, where the fire started in a one-story building around 3 p.m.  

Members of the western Massachusetts Red Cross are assisting the residents without a home. 

The building contains a business and several apartments. Red Cross Disaster Manager, Mary Nathan, told 22News they were helping at least nine people including seven families.

No word on how the fire started or if anyone was hurt. 

Traffic was backed up on Route 202 during the fire, but the road remained open.
