A significant downtown Chicopee apartment development is in the works.
The vacant 19th-century vintage Cabotville Mills on Front Street is being redeveloped.
New York developer Silverbrick is preparing final plans for the $55 million, 600 apartment project.
Chicopee’s Planning Director Lee Pouliot told 22News, the apartment project will help revitalize downtown.
“We’re increasing the residential density of downtown Chicopee with a project of this scale…more people downtown,” Pouliot told 22News. “They’re going to want little cafes to go get coffee, a place to get some groceries.”
The city’s planning director expects renovations to begin by the mid to late fall.
The 600 apartments would be market rentals, renting for anywhere between $900 and $1,400 a month.
