The Massachusetts Department of Agriculture this week described Farmers Markets as a major force helping western Massachusetts farmers sell what they grow.
Thursday is Farmers Market Day in downtown Holyoke as it has been for years.
People working downtown as well as people from the neighborhoods stocked up on fresh fruits and vegetables.
“I can walk down here with my co-workers buy local produce and fruits and vegetables and herbs and plants from local vendors,” said Jordan Hart.
“Locally grown, it means the food isn’t shipped in from another state or even another country,” John Maloney added I can purchase it in my city.”
The weekly Holyoke Farmers Market as well as those in Springfield, Chicopee and Westfield will continue bringing their produce to the local markets well into October.
