Resource event for veterans, service members being held in Springfield

Hampden County

Springfield area veterans took advantage of a range of services offered during the Stars & Stripes Day Resource Festival held at Tower Square.

Dozens of agencies provided services as well as answers to the many veterans’ questions, whether for health or housing.

“Even though I have housing right now, I just wanted information for other alternatives,” Army veteran Sammy Arroyo told 22News. “Plus, they have free haircuts, and I have an event on Thursday. So I needed a haircut.”

According to Director of Veteran Services Walt Fludd, the purpose of the event is to “provide a festive and veteran friendly environment, with live entertainment as well as resources in healthcare, education, employment, housing, and financial services and legal services.”

The resource festival is a service provided by the Springfield Partners for Community Action. Other grassroots services include free tax preparation.

The event was free for veterans, current service members, and family members.
