A retired Springfield school teacher displayed her lifetime collection of memorabilia as a Black History Month exhibit Thursday.
Ritamae Miles’ collection went on display at Springfield’s High School of Science and Technology.
The photographs, magazines, and artwork cover all aspects of the African-American experience through the years. They placed an emphasis on the presidency of Barrack Obama, but achievements in entertainment and sports were also given a place of honor.
Miles told 22News what the message her collection is sending to students, “One is that they’ll see the insight into the history and they’ll find a topic they might be interested in.”
RitaMae Miles’ Black History month collection will be on display again at the Sci-Tech Library next Wednesday, February 20.
The New Orlean’s native has been gathering her Black History month collection since she started teaching in her hometown many years ago.
