A retirement celebration was held Sunday night for a long-time employee of a local organization.
After 10 years as executive director and 33 years after co-founding the low-income rights organization “Arise for Social Justice,” Michaelann Bewsee is retiring.
A dinner took place in Springfield to celebrate her retirement.
Arise is well-known for its advocacy for homeless people and people facing problems.
Bewsee told 22News, “I’m really overwhelmed by the number of people who support me and support this work, and given me a chance to fight for social justice.”
Tanisha Arena will take over as the new executive director of Arise.
